Molly Terry

My name is Molly Terry and I am 10 years old. I have been racing motorcycles since I was 6 1/2 years old. I recieved my first motorcycle for my birthday on August 24, 2002. It was a Honda 50. I only got to ride my Honda a couple times before winter, since my birthday is at the end of summer. So, you can imagine how bad I wanted to ride as soon as summer started in 2003.

We made a homemade TT track in my yard at the beginning of the summer. I rode as much as I could. It was a lot of fun, but it wasn't fast enough, and I was riding the same thing everyday. So I decided to ask my parents if I could race at a real track. We found out that Galesburg Motorcycle Club had race in Juneand it was close to my house, so we made plans to go. We got there, signed up for my AMA and District cards, and I went out for my first race. It was so FUN!!! I knew, right then, that I wanted to be a racer. I finished out the season with District 17, going to local races. Unfortunately, no matter how fast I went, it was hard competing with KTMs. They were a lot faster than my Honda 50. So... I got a KTM Pro Sr 50. That was my first favorite "racing" motorcycle.

When the season was over, I was bummed to find out that I had nothing to do on the weekends. But, no fear, my grandpa found indoor races on the internet. I raced at the Indoor Springfield Short Track/TT event that was put on by Steve Nace. It was a lot different riding next to a wall. I raced ost of the indoors races that Steve Nace held during the 2003/2004 season. I gained a lot of experience for a beginner.

The 2004 season was here!! I also got another bike to bring into the season. A PW50. Now I could race my KTM50 and my PW50, since they split the chain and shaft calsses up. More track time, yeah! My PW50 was a fun bike. I would always put my feet in front of my pegs, and give it gas, so that the back tire would spin. That is how I learned how to get a holeshot.

I raced all the District 17 races that year. I ended up finishing 1st in the 50 shaft class and 1st in the 50 chain class, earning the title as Double Class Champion.

2004 was a season of firsts for me. I got a lot of first place finishes. I raced out of Central Illinois for the first time. I went to the AMA Amateur Grand National Championships for the first time.

I now own 7 motorcycles. I am racing the 65 and 85 class. I race all over Illinois and surrounding states. And, I race approximately 45 weekends a year. So I have no time to be bored on weekends anymore! That is, as long as there is no rain falling.
